The Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints Girls’ Basketball Team won a very physical battle at Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas, 54 – 42. After a low scoring first half that saw the Saints take a 16-11 lead into intermission, Central outscored Aquinas 17-8 in the third quarter. The Knights increased their pressure and forced the Saints into untimely fourth quarter turnovers and cut the lead to 3 with under 3 minutes to play. But the Saints righted themselves and made enough free throws and baskets down the stretch to secure the win.
An incredibly balanced team, Senior Sage DeBois-Winnie led Central with 14 points, including a 9 for 12 performance at the foul line. Fellow Senior Sophia Knight was next in line with 13 while Junior Gina Sciarretti and Sophomore Maddie Ferrell added 11 and 9 points, respectively. Sophomore Reese Triplett added a key three pointer and Sophomore Megan Peltz made a big fast break lay-up to help extend the lead after the Knights pulled within a basket.
With the victory, TCC improves to 7-1 on the season and will take on IVC crossover foe Sandy Valley at home on Wednesday night. Aquinas drops to 3-3.
