Saints News · Short-handed Saints fall to Sandy Valley

Sandy Valley downed Tuscarawas Central Catholic in girls’ basketball, 42 – 30 on Wednesday night.  The visiting Cardinals broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and outscored the Saints 14 – 6 in the final frame.  The Saints, who were without starting point guard Sage DeBois-Winnie, were led by Sophia Knight and Gina Scriarretti with 7 points apiece.

Central, who has played three games in five nights, gave a strong effort against a much bigger Sandy Valley team.  Several bench players gained valuable experience, but the Saints suffered from cold perimeter shooting and foul trouble in the pivotal fourth quarter.  The Saints drop to 7-2 on the season are are 4-0 in the IVC North Division.  Their big rematch against state-ranked East Canton, who the Saints beat earlier this season, was slated for Saturday in the Saints gym.  However, COVID quarantine has sidelined the Wizards.  TCC is back in action on Wednesday night at Malvern.
