Regional Qualifiers & Finals Bound: Boys Track Delivers Big at Districts It was another scorching, 88-degree night at Nelsonville-York High School, but the heat didn't slow down the boys' track team as they battled through day one of the District meet, securing Regional berths and locking in spots for Saturday's finals. Regionals Bound Two athletes have already officially punched their tickets to the Regional track meet at Chillicothe next week: • Nolan Pugh started the day off with a spectacular performance, capturing 1st place in the pole vault to become District Champion and advance to Regionals. • Alex Mercier gutted out a brilliant race in the grueling 3200m, placing 4th with a time of 10:56.77 to lock down his spot at the Regional meet. PRs and Finals Qualifiers The speed and endurance squads kept the momentum rolling on the track, setting up a huge Saturday: • Steven Simpson had a massive day, clocking a huge personal record (PR) of 2:16.06 in the 800m to advance to Saturday’s finals. He didn't stop there, also setting a new PR in the 200m with a time of 26.60. What to Watch for on Saturday The action continues this Saturday, where the boys look to advance even more runners to Chillicothe: • Steven Simpson will compete in the 800m Finals. • Alex Mercier and Collin Virag will both take the track to battle it out in the 1600m. Note: Congratulations to all the athletes on a phenomenal, hard-fought night in the heat. Let's keep the momentum moving into Saturday. Go team!
