Saints Battle State-Ranked Chippewa, Sweep East Canton The Tuscarawas Central Catholic varsity volleyball team faced Division V state-ranked Chippewa and conference opponent East Canton last week, battling Chippewa in four sets before earning a dominant sweep over East Canton. The Saints began the week against Chippewa, which was ranked fifth in the state at the time of the match. TCC came out strong and captured the opening set 25-14. Chippewa responded by winning the next three sets, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-18. Miya Olson led the TCC offense with 13 kills, followed closely by Elena Dodson with 12 and Reese Knight with 10. Ryann Walker added six kills. Jessica Selinsky directed the offense with 38 assists while also collecting 16 digs. Kieran Fausel led the Saints’ defense with 27 digs. Olson recorded 19, Walker added 15, Knight had eight, and Dodson and Suzanna Sica-Calel each finished with seven. At the net, Lucy Oberholzer contributed three blocks, while Knight recorded two. TCC finished with 10 aces against Chippewa. Selinsky and Dodson led the serving effort with three apiece, Olson added two, and Walker and Sica-Calel each recorded one. The Saints returned to conference play against East Canton and earned a dominant sweep, winning 25-8, 25-10 and 25-5. Olson led the offense with 11 kills while hitting .667. Knight and Walker added six kills apiece, while Oberholzer and Dodson each recorded five. Selinsky contributed three kills and handed out 25 assists. TCC put heavy pressure on East Canton from the service line, finishing with 23 aces. Walker and Sica-Calel recorded six aces each, while Selinsky and Knight added five apiece. Selinsky also led the defense with seven digs, Sica-Calel had five, and Knight and Olson collected four each. The Saints have a big week of conference volleyball ahead. TCC will travel to Buckeye Trail on Tuesday before returning home Thursday to face rival Strasburg. Thursday will also be Youth Night and will begin the second half of conference play.
