Article written by: Dana Scarpino Facing one of the premier programs of the IVC North, the TCC Saints were unable to stop the high powered Malvern Hornets in a 56-16 loss, dropping the Saints to 2-7 heading into the final week of the season. The Hornets took control of this game early and basically never looked back, leading 29-0 after the 1st quarter. The Hornets would continue to extend that lead heading towards the halftime break, leading 49-0 at the break. Malvern would tack on another score in the 3rd quarter before the Saints put points on the board, thanks to a 13-yard touchdown run by Grady Stein, and Joseph Moss would convert the 2-point conversion to make it 56-8 Hornets in the 3rd quarter. TCC would tack on one more score to finish the game as Grady Stein would score his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night from 7 yards out, and Stein would add another 2-point conversion to finish out the scoring at 56-16. TCC was able to ground out 163 yards on the ground for the night, with Grady Stein leading the way with 72 yards on 15 carries, rushing for 2 touchdowns as well. Joseph Moss also touted the rock 15 times for 34 yards and a 2-point conversion. Cal Stewart rushed for 23 yards on 4 carries, and Nick Civiello carried it 4 times for 29 yards. Despite giving up 56 points, the Saints did have 2 tackles for loss, as Nolan Pugh racked up both TFL's for the Saints. The Saints, now out of the playoff picture, will wrap their season up returning to Art Teynor Field on a historic night, as the Saints will be honoring the St. Joe's football teams from the 1960's, including the 1965 team, who will be honored at halftime, as they were the AP Poll State Champions (The era before the OHSAA State Championship Games). To honor these teams, TCC will be wearing throwback jersey's to honor the special occasion, as the Saints will be decked out in Blue tops trimmed in Yellow, much different than the normal Black jerseys. For their opponent, the IVC North schedule will wrap up for the Saints with the 6-3 Strasburg Tigers making the short trip to New Philadelphia. The Tigers are coming off a decimating 38-7 loss at the hands of the IVC North frontrunner, the Newcomerstown Trojans. While the Saints are out of the playoff picture, this night ensures to be a fun and great atmosphere honoring the teams of the past.
